Nagaland CM, Dr. Neiphiu Rio and A. R. Rahman Launch ‘Naga International Studio’ - A global scale Music Studio

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, and Oscar and Grammy Award–winning composer Dr. A. R. Rahman today announced the establishment of the Naga International Studio by A. R. Rahman, a world-class music production and creative facility to be located in Kohima.

Conceptualised by Dr. A.R. Rahman, the studio will feature state-of-the-art recording facilities, a performance auditorium, and supporting creative infrastructure.

Welcoming Dr. Rahman to his native village, Touphema in Kohima district, Chief Minister Dr. Rio thanked him for bringing a landmark creative project to Nagaland, noting that the initiative reflects the musician’s deep affection for the Naga people and his commitment to nurturing talent in India’s far-flung regions. The Chief Minister assured full support from the State Government. He added saying “This is a meaningful step that reflects our shared commitment to nurturing creativity, innovation, and supporting creative talent. I wish this initiative growth, excellence, and impact.”

Dr. Rahman expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Nagaland for their warmth and support. “Nagaland has a rare musical soul which is honest, original, and deeply rooted in its culture. The Naga International Studio is envisioned as a space where this heritage can meet world class creativity, allowing young artists from the region to collaborate, experiment, and create music that resonates not just nationally, but globally. I am grateful to Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, the Government of Nagaland and TAFMA for their vision and support in making this dream possible.” He said. 

Earlier yesterday, Rahman also launched the trailer of the documentary ‘Headhunting to Beatboxing’, directed by Rohit Gupta and produced by him, which documents Nagaland’s musical renaissance and evolving creative identity.

The Naga International Studio is designed by Bluecube Architects and Riyasdeen Riyan, and has been facilitated by the Task Force for Music & Arts (TAFMA) and the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN).

The studio is expected to position Nagaland as an important creative hub in the Northeast and beyond.

Commenting on the expansion, co-founder Tutu Sharma said the company sees Gujarat as an important market with strong audience engagement across film, comedy, and live entertainment. Rahul Nehra, managing director, added that Jamnagar and Rajkot were selected based on their cultural activity and potential for scalable entertainment formats.

Citara stated that the Gujarat launch is part of its plan to establish a wider footprint across key regional markets. The company expects the new locations to contribute to the development of local talent while offering audiences access to a broader range of content formats in a single venue.
