Indian Institute of Zombies Trailer Drops, Pioneers India’s First Campus Zom-Com
The trailer of Kuku’s maiden feature ‘Indian Institute of Zombies (IIZ)’ was launched, marking a distinctive addition to India’s growing horror-comedy space and positioning itself as the country’s first “zom-com” set within a college campus.
Directed by Gaganjeet Singh and Alok Dwivedi, IIZ is produced by Kunj Sanghvi and written by Hussain Dalal and Abbas Dalal, known for their work on Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Farzi among others. IIZ features a mix of established and emerging talent, including Mohan Kapur, Anupriya Goenka, Jesse Lever, Shivani Paliwal, Rose Sardana, Sachin Kavetham, and Tanishq Chaudhary.
Set against the high-pressure backdrop of campus life, the film introduces a narrative where academic competition takes a sinister turn. The trailer reveals a world in which the institution’s top performing students are transformed into zombies, triggering chaos across classrooms and hostels. As the outbreak spreads and the academic order collapses, the responsibility of navigating the crisis shifts to an unlikely group, the backbenchers.
In a landscape often shaped by familiar formulas, Indian Institute of Zombies reflects Kuku’s attempt to approach Hindi cinema differently, backing a concept-led film that taps into an underexplored space. The trailer highlights a mix of suspense, fast-paced storytelling, and campus-centric comedy, underscored by a high-energy background score.
With its unique spin, Indian Institute of Zombies signals an attempt to expand the scope of Indian horror-comedy storytelling. The film is slated for a nationwide theatrical release on May 15.
