Girija Oak Felicitates Cancer Survivors at MOC Cancer Care’s ‘Vijeta’ Event in Mumbai

Actress shares her grandfather’s cancer journey as MOC doctors showcase talent beyond medicine at an emotional celebration of resilience and hope

The ballroom echoed with applause, not for a film star, but for ordinary people who had won an extraordinary battle. MOC Cancer Care hosted Vijeta – Strong Minds Against Cancer in Mumbai, an event dedicated to celebrating cancer survivors, their caregivers, and the medical team that stood by them. Actress Girija Oak graced the occasion as Chief Guest, turning the ceremony into a memorable evening of courage, gratitude, and healing.

Dressed in an elegant saree, Girija Oak arrived in style and immediately set a warm tone. The event brought together all cancer survivors who had been treated by or cured at MOC Cancer Care. Each survivor walked the stage and was felicitated by the actress, receiving honour and words of encouragement. For many, it was their first public moment of recognition after months, sometimes years, of treatment and uncertainty.

“Strength is not the absence of fear, but moving forward despite it,” Girija Oak told the audience. In a heartfelt address, she shared the story of her grandfather, a cancer survivor himself. She recalled how his fitness, self-confidence, and positive mindset played a crucial role in his recovery. “He taught me that the mind is the first medicine. If you believe you can fight, half the battle is already won,” she said. Her personal anecdote struck a chord with survivors who nodded in agreement, many wiping away tears.

What made Vijeta stand out was not just the felicitations, but the talent showcase by MOC Cancer Care’s doctors. Beyond their regular work in wards and OTs, several oncologists and specialists stepped onto the stage to perform. One doctor played the violin, filling the hall with a soulful melody. Another took the mic and sang, drawing cheers from patients and families. The entire doctors’ team of MOC Cancer Care was present, and their performances added a deeply human touch to the medical journey.

Doctors from from MOC said, “We treat cancer, but we also treat people. Events like this remind us that healing is not only about medicine. It’s about hope, connection, and celebrating life after diagnosis.” The performances by doctors were followed by heartfelt conversations where survivors shared their journeys – from diagnosis and chemotherapy to remission and rebuilding life.

Every survivor treated by MOC Cancer Care was present, and each one was individually honored on stage by Girija Oak. From elderly patients who completed treatment 10 years ago to younger survivors just months into remission, the diversity of stories reflected one common thread: resilience. Family members accompanied survivors, and several shared how the support system at MOC made the treatment journey less isolating.

Why Events Like Vijeta Matter
Cancer awareness events often focus on prevention and early detection. Vijeta shifted the focus to life after cancer. By putting survivors on stage and letting doctors show their human side, MOC Cancer Care reinforced that survivorship is a milestone worth celebrating.
